    We offer this advertising folder for Church's Improved ALABASTINE, for Walls and Ceilings, Plain and Relief Work. This 4 fold (8 sides) booklet Includes a page of color samples, actual Alabastine (like thin plaster) applied with a brush to paper. The Alabastine Company was founded in New York, in 1879, by Melvin B. Church. Alabastine has a base of calcined gypsum, made to take the place of calimine in wall coatings and finish. Church invented the colored wall paint. The gypsum was mined from the shale beds around Grand Rapids, Michigan. Became a very popular decorating style especially from 1890-1930's. Booklets of stencils were also printed by the company. We date this booklet from 1880-1890 . Printed folder measures, 3-1/8 x 5-1/2 inches closed. 4 panels open to 5-1/2 x 12 inches.

    proclaimed the ads for Alabastine. The company placed many  color advertisements in popular domestic magazines of the day, including
    Ladies Home Journal,

    Delineator,
    and
    House Beautiful.
    Became a very popular decorating style especially from 1890-1930's. Booklets of stencils to use with their product were printed by the company.
