Description
Bausch & Lomb ZEPHYR 8x30 BinocularsOriginal older [probably 1940-1950 period] Bausch & Lomb ZEPHYR 8 x 30 Stereo Prism binoculars, as follows:
Binoculars: Center focus, black painted zinc alloy body with textured black leatherette covering, black anodized aluminum end plates and objective lens rings, and combination zinc/aluminum eye piece housings with black bakelite eye cups. Complete with original black leather neck strap. Original owner's initials engraved on left end plate. Serial number 246642. Painted finish on edges of some of the metal parts shows wear but can easily be touched up. Optics are a little dusty but no chips, cracks or other damage. No cracks or damage to body or covering. Only problem I can see is that the focus knob turns slightly, but does not move the eye pieces.
Case: Black leather construction featuring black velvet type lining, chrome plated metal hardware, paper B&L label inside lid, triangular B&L logo embossed on top of lid, and detachable shoulder strap. Male snap post is missing from front of case, otherwise undamaged.
Box: Black covered stiff paper construction with large B&L label on one end. Has average wear to edges and one corner of lid is split. Note serial number on box does not match the binoculars.
Instruction pamphlet: Small paperback, pocket size construction, 30 pages. Minor bug bites to edges of covers but no tears, missing pages, or other damage. Photo of B&L factory inside back cover states US ARMY AIR CORPS PHOTO, indicating immediate pre-WW2 production [of the pamphlet, at least].
I have attempted to get the focus knob to work [without forcing it], but with no luck. Perhaps it's an easy fix for you vintage binocular experts out there. Nice set that is certainly worthy of restoration and is in fine condition. Any questions please feel free to ask.
